Hunger Games UK DVD release
Brief: Create a social website for the UK DVD launch of The Hunger Games film with moderation tool for Facebook and Twitter.
The client already had a very active Facebook page and Twitter feed with an obsessive fan base. They wanted to create as much excitement as possible around the UK DVD launch and decided to host a national ‘shared view’ time for fans of the film to watch the DVD at the same time. The website would be the portal for which their comments and conversations were shared. The DVD was launched on September 3rd 2012 and the shared view time was set for 8pm on that evening.
Let the Hunger Games begin…
We built the main site using WordPress to ensure that the clients could easily upload and amend content as much as they pleased. We built a bespoke Tweet and Facebook moderation tool (see screengrab, it ain’t pretty but it was only meant for the moderators – and it worked!).
The biggest challenge in the project was making sure that the social elements of the site worked for both the lead up (where posts were pre-moderated) and during the shared view (where posts were post moderated, but moderation was happening 100% of the time).
Outcomes:
- The website received 5400 visits on the day of the shared view event (3rd September 2012)
- 10,000+ comments and posts shared on the page
- The Facebook page increased its like numbers by around 5000 in the 3 days 2nd – 4th September, nearly 3 times as many as they would normally expect
